Luuk Hilbrands (1962) is internist-nephrologist and staff member of the Department of Nephrology. He is especially involved in the care of renal transplant patients.
Dr. L.B. Hilbrands

Areas of research contain clinical as well as experimental topics. Clinical trials are designed to evaluate new treatments for improving patient outcome after renal transplantation. In addition, novel approaches for immunological monitoring after transplantation are explored. Experimental research is directed towards the induction of donor-specific tolerance after transplantation. To achieve this goal, the role of immature dendritic cells as well as the induction of regulatory T cells are investigated. The ultimate aim is the translation of new knowledge obtained in these projects into clinical application.
