Barbara Franke is Assistant professor (UD) and head of the Research laboratory for Multifactorial Diseases within the DNA-diagnostics division of the Department of Human Genetics since 2002. She also supervises the linkage and SNP genotyping facilities of the department. Within the DNA-diagnostic lab she is responsible for setting up diagnostic tests for multifactorial diseases and pharmacogenetic testing.
Dr. Barbara Franke

Within the Genetics of Multifactorial Diseases area, her main research interests are in diseases of the central nervous system and autoimmunity. Main projects are on genetics of ADHD and dyslexia, genetics of neural tube defects and genetic factors in rheumatoid arthritis. A new line of research in her lab -and a link to activities of the DNA-diagnostic laboratory- is pharmacogenetics, designing tests to predict response of patients to medication prior to treatment start. She is interested primarily in the genetic factors predictive of response to anti-TNF treatment in rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease and psoriasis as well as those predicting response to treatment in ADHD and depression.
